Quality Assurance Analyst

We specialize in custom Django apps, but also offer discovery workshops, best practices consulting, and team augmentation. As a full-service shop, Caktus commits to maintaining each project with managed hosting and ongoing Django upgrades. Past and current clients include Mozilla, UChicago, PBS, Discovery Communications and others in media, travel, education, finance, and health research.

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Analyst to help grow our testing team at Caktus. Our small, yet effective team strives to ensure we deliver high quality, custom-built products to our clients through close collaboration and thorough test plans. Caktus strives to maintain a healthy balance of manual and automated testing, so interest in automation is a plus. This position requires onsite work in our Durham, NC office.

Caktus uses a standardized and equitable method to calculate salaries. Salaries are predetermined by a formula, which incorporates market rates, cost of living, candidate experience, and years with the company. They are standardized team-wide and are non-negotiable. For this position, we’re seeking a Level I or Level II candidate with a starting salary of $54,120 or $59,520, respectively.


Within 30 days assist with testing and creation of test plans for 1-2 projects:

  • Create test plans for projects and add issues discovered to GitHub, Jira, or project-specific issue tracker
  • Write, maintain and verify test cases
  • Develop test matrixes, identify test data and use case requirements
  • Collaborate closely with teams and be an active participant in meetings for upcoming and in-progress projects

Within 60 days successfully complete several QA test cycles on 1-2 projects

  • Evaluate and analyze test automation tools and strike a balance between manual and automated testing on a per-project basis
  • Collaborate with development teams to resolve issues discovered during the QA process
  • Stay abreast of feature requests on projects and assist in estimating feasibility/level of effort for QA for both new and existing projects
  • Plan, manage and successfully execute test plans for web-based applications
  • Identify, define and document software defects, functional and application user interface inconsistencies

Within 90 days fully integrate with a team and represent Quality Assurance to Caktus

  • Evaluate and add to the standard quality assurance process for Caktus
  • Work with developers to integrate automation into the QA process, including Selenium testing, cluster tests, better unit tests, Cucumber testing, and integration tests
  • Become responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of comprehensive test plans and test cases to ensure software requirements are met
  • Maintain a library of devices, platforms, and software for QA use throughout Caktus

Bonus Points for:

  • Expertise in responsive websites
  • Advanced knowledge of testing methodologies and theories (e.g. negative, white box, and stress testing techniques), test plan development, test case design, and test execution practices 
  • Agile experience
  • Experience implementing test automation tools and writing testing scripts
  • Prior experience serving as a Scrum Master
